News Brook / Jennings Fight is Off!

It looks like the fight is now off due to a knuckle injury, picked up in his last win against Laszlo Komjathi in October.

Michel Jenning: "I'm not scared of facing Kell - I'm desperate to fight him," said Jennings. "I fought Miguel Cotto in his own backyard and was convinced I'd beat him. I'd never go into any fight unless I thought I could win, but my hand just wasn't right. I've got to be 100 per cent fit or there's just no point in doing it.

If I'm beaten by someone because of their ability then that's fair enough, but if it's because I'm not fit then that's harder to take. "I'm convinced I'll beat him, but I will have to be in my best condition to do it."

On Friday (12 May 2009) night he has his first fight since that defeat - only the second of his 36-bout professional career - when he takes on undefeated Irish prospect Willie Thompson in Belfast. Jennings sees the Cotto fight as something to tell his grandchildren about in his dotage, but for now the disappointment is still fresh.

"I have to win this fight before I even think about what comes next, and it's tricky. I have seen a clip of Thompson, and he is taller than me, but leaves himself wide open when he throws punches."

"I just want to get back in the ring" is the offical worlds of our fighter! In a extrodanary interview with Chris Flanagan Michael explains that he has plans for the future, including a possible fight with already defeated Rafal Jackiewicz in 2004. Michael has his eye on the European title and it’s gona be a good year waiting and watching until he lifts the belt! Michael is set to fight again on 15th May, this is a non-title match but it’s vital for Michael to get back into the ring and practice what he has learnt with Cotto.
  • Stronger Punching Power
  • Stamina for the body shots
  • Less foot work and more accuracy
These are the things we hope Michael has been working on and will bring on 15th May.

Conspiracy Theories Out Already

Stories about a conspiracy to place Michael in the Cotto bout, just to rebuilt Cottos confidance are begining to merge. I really though that talk of this nature would be out before now but it looks like someone somewhere has said something stupid. Pete "The Heat" has written some damaging and insulting words about Michael's entitlement to fight the Cotto bout. Let me make on thing clear, Michael deserved this chance; he also deserves a few more. Talk about this being a match to revive Cotto's confidence is damaging to Michael (in my option) and comments of this nature should never be published. Boxing is not the X-Files! Keep your opions to yourself and let the boxing do the talking!!!

" There’s no disgrace in losing to a world-class fighter, and, after the initial pain of defeat has subsided, Michael will be able to look back with pride; and sometimes fighters can learn from defeats like that and come back stronger. Let’s hope Jennings will."

Victory over Pryce
PryceMicahel Defeated Pryce in a 12 round fight that tested both fighters.
Well Done Michael!
Jennings was sent to his knees by a big right hand moments after the opening bell but managed to last the round.
He assumed more and more control as the fight wore on and had Pryce in serious trouble in the middle rounds.
Jennings, from Chorley, eventually took a unanimous points decision to extend his unbeaten record to 28 fights.
Bradley caught me with some cracking shots but you have got to overcome your hard fights if you are a champion, said the 28-year-old Jennings.
It was a cracking fight and it was not the kind of fight I would like to have every night. I will be looking for an easier one next time.
